ROLE

 

Responsible for the strategic planning of the commodities sector and long term development plan of Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC).

 

FUNCTION

 

·         Formulating policies, strategies and programmes pertaining to commodity-based entrepreneurial development.

 

·         Planning and coordinating the Ministry's bilateral cooperation with other related organisations, such as the bilateral meetings with State Governments.

 

·         Establishing cooperation with other ministries/agencies/councils pertaining to entrepreneurship such as the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry and Small and Medium Industries Development Corporation (SMIDEC).

 

·         Analysing the employment needs of the plantation and commodities sector.

 

·         Secretariat (at the MPIC’s level) to the Committee on Increasing the Income of Small Farmers (JKMPPK) under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW).

 

·         Providing necessary feedback on memorandums for submission to the Cabinet Meeting/Chief Ministers’ Meeting/Meeting of the Chief Secretary to the Goverment.

 

·         Coordinating and representing the Ministry in the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) meetings.

 

·         Coordinating and providing relevant input for the meetings of National Land Council, National Water Resources Board, National Mineral Council and National Forestry Council.

 

·         Collating, coordinating and updating statistical data on commodities with cooperation from the Malaysian Statistics Department and other relevant agencies.

 

·         Undertaking market intelligence, including price trend and trade information on commodities.

 

·         Publishing annual reports on Malaysian primary commodities status and performance, statistical books and other publications pertaining to plantation commodities.

 

·         Planning and monitoring the implementation of the commodity-based entrepreneurial development projects.

 

·         Planning and monitoring the implementation of training programmes for commodity-based entrepreneurs.

 

·         Undertaking studies on business and new market development in the plantation and commodities sector.

 

·         Focal point (at the MPIC’s level) for the National Small and Medium Industries Council and Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development Council meetings.

 

·         Focal point (at the MPIC’s level) for the formulation of standards pertaining to food safety such as CODEX and HACCP.

 

·         Coordinating issues pertaining to SIRIM and ISO standards.

 

·         Planning and coordinating the organisation of Malaysia International Commodity Conference and Showcase (MICCOS).

 

·         Coordinating the development of shared-database between MPIC and its agencies.

 

·        Coordinating and updating information pertaining to MPIC in the E-BKPP system (Cabinet, Constitution and Inter-Governmental Relations Division, Prime Minister’s Department).
