Role :  

Responsible for the development of the nation’s cocoa and pepper industries.

   
Functions :  
  • Formulating policies, strategies, programmes, legislations and regulations pertaining to the cocoa and pepper industries.
  • Supervising and evaluating the implementation of policies pertaining to the development of cocoa and pepper industries.
  • Updating information on cocoa and pepper industries to facilitate the formulation, planning and implementation of related policies and strategies.
  • Formulating and monitoring activities to strengthen the existing and new markets for cocoa and pepper abroad.
  • Organising technical and trade missions for the promotion of cocoa and pepper products.
  • Organising/participating in meetings, conventions, seminars and workshops on cocoa and pepper industries at both national and international levels.
  • Coordinating and evaluating the implementation of development projects for both cocoa and pepper industries undertaken by the Ministry, Malaysian Cocoa Board (MCB) and Malaysian Pepper Board (MPB).
  • Supervising and coordinating research and development activities towards productivity enhancement and promotion of downstream industries.
  • Monitoring the administrative matters concerning both MCB and MPB to be in line with the Rules and Regulation, Circulars and other Government instructions.
  • Representing the country in international organisational meetings or conventions such as the Cocoa Producers’ Alliance (COPAL), International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) and International Pepper Community (IPC).

  • Planning on the strategies and directions of cooperation’s at bilateral, regional and multilateral fora.

  • Monitoring and formulating strategies to address issues pertaining to trade and non-trade barriers imposed on the cocoa and pepper industries.
