COUNCIL
The industry is organized under various councils and associations, representing different industry sectors. Through the industry bodies, interaction and consultation between Government and the private sector are facilitated. The industry is also represented on the boards of statutory bodies under the ministry and as such is able to ensure that policies and programmes of the statutory bodies are in tune with the need of industry and together play their part in strengthening market promotion, quality control, R&D and downstream resource-based industrialization. There are five councils under the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities. The councils are:
Malaysian Timber Council(MTC)
The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) was established in January 1992 to promote the development of the timber-based industry in Malaysia and the marketing of timber products.
Malaysian Palm Oil Council(MPOC)
The Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) was incorporated on January 25, 1990 assuming the responsibilities and activities previously undertaken by the Palm Oil Promotion Fund (POPF) Committee. It is charged with spearheading the promotional and marketing activities of Malaysian palm oil in the effort to make it the leading oil in the global oils and fats market.
Malaysian Timber Certification Council(MTCC)
The Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) is an independent non-profit organization established to plan and operate a voluntary national timber certification scheme to provide assurance to buyers of Malaysian timber products that the products have been sourced from sustainably managed forests
Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council(MREPC)
The Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC) was set up in April 2000 to promote the marketing of rubber and rubber products. This is in keeping with Malaysia's position as the world?s largest supplier of medical gloves, catheters, latex thread and a host of rubber products.
Malaysian Furniture Promotion Council (MFPC)
The Malaysian Furniture Promotion Council (MFPC) was established in 2003 as a corporate body under the Companies Act of Malaysia 1965. It is tasked with the responsibility to promote and develop the Malaysian furniture manufacturing and export industry as a substantial foreign exchange earning sector of the national economy.
